Overseas warehouse of Kapoklog Logistics in Shenzhen increases security for Chinese enterprises to go overseas
As an emerging force in the field of foreign trade, overseas warehouses not only inject new vitality into traditional foreign trade models, but also become an important area actively explored by many private enterprises, attracting the attention of many overseas Chinese businessmen.
Recently, several industry insiders stated in interviews that the role of overseas warehouses in the cross-border e-commerce ecosystem is constantly evolving, contributing to solving cross-border logistics pain points, helping Chinese brands go global, and integrating into the global market.
Wang Peiqian, Vice President of the Jiangsu General Chamber of Commerce in Germany, stated that the overseas warehouse model in Europe began around 2010. Its origin came from the increased transportation efficiency requirements of cross-border e-commerce sellers, as well as concerns raised by overseas buyers about customs duties, returns, and exchanges.
In 2012, Wang Peiqian began to establish overseas warehouses. At that time, cross-border e-commerce mainly sold small items such as electronic digital, clothing, jewelry, etc. The warehousing requirements were not high, and the initial investment was small. However, the business development was very rapid, with a single warehouse inventory of nearly 10000 and over 100 customers, with an average daily order volume of thousands of orders.
Previously, cross-border e-commerce transportation relied heavily on postal parcels. Although the freight rates were low, the transportation took 30 to 60 days and there was no tracking number, resulting in a high rate of lost items. After the emergence of overseas warehouses, goods are first transported in bulk to overseas warehouses using international express delivery or air freight. The first leg of transportation time and loss rate are significantly reduced. After the goods arrive at the warehouse, they are counted, stored, and shelved, and delivered to buyers in just two or three days.
With the growth of cross-border e-commerce, Wang Peiqian's warehouse goods category has shifted from low value small items to high-value medium to large items. The first leg transportation mode has become increasingly diverse, covering sea freight containers, air freight, China Europe freight trains, China Europe truck transportation, etc., providing sellers with a variety of suitable product choices.
In the future, overseas warehouses will continue to develop rapidly, and international transportation efficiency and localized services will continue to be optimized. "Wang Peiqian pointed out that given the maturity of artificial intelligence and robotics technology, cross-border logistics and overseas warehouse management will move towards intelligence and automation. In addition, domestic e-commerce platforms will provide new opportunities for the development of overseas warehouses, such as mobile commerce and logistics collaboration.
Cao Bin, founder of German e-commerce company Lide, has built a modern overseas warehouse of 5000 square meters in the Ruhr area of Germany.
In recent years, due to the optimization of cross-border logistics networks, the overall transportation time of Cao Bin's overseas warehouses has been further shortened, from initial transportation to warehouse management and then to final delivery. He said that this is due to the optimization of transportation routes, intelligent upgrading of management systems, and close cooperation with local delivery providers.
Cao Bin emphasized that in the process of Chinese enterprises going global, overseas warehouses play a key role in shortening delivery times, reducing logistics costs, enhancing market competitiveness, and promoting brand globalization. The construction of overseas warehouses drives the prosperity of surrounding businesses and enhances the agglomeration effect of local industries. Its overseas warehouses employ a large number of local employees and work together with local express and truck companies to optimize the logistics industry chain.
In Cao Bin's overseas warehouse, Chinese small commodities such as household items, digital accessories, and fashion accessories account for a relatively large proportion. In recent years, the number of sellers on social e-commerce platforms such as Xiaohongshu, TikTok, and Temu has increased, and more and more people are using short videos and live streaming to promote global brand dissemination.
The form of Chinese enterprises going global is shifting from traditional enterprise to enterprise foreign trade to enterprise to individual consumer brand marketing. Social media has become an emerging marketing channel, and brand building and user interaction are becoming increasingly important. Cao Bin said that in the future, cross-border e-commerce will rely more on social media promotion, data analysis, and localized operations to accurately meet the needs of overseas consumers.
