Meps[1] is the Australian energy efficiency rating label. In the mid-1970s, New South Wales (NSW), Australia's two largest states, and Victoria jointly proposed to implement the energy labeling system, but it was not until 1986 that the mandatory labeling system was implemented. In 1992, five states and one territory agreed to implement the compulsory marking system; In 2000, the compulsory marking system was implemented nationwide. At present, refrigerators, refrigerators, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers and single air conditioners must be labeled with mandatory energy efficiency labels throughout Australia, while voluntary energy efficiency labels must be implemented for three products using gas and natural gas, such as gas-fired water heaters.

Australia's energy rating label system also adopts a self declaration method similar to the EU CE mark, but enterprises should register the energy efficiency information of their products with the Australian Greenhouse Gas office. In order to ensure the accuracy of the energy efficiency information declared by the manufacturer, the Australian government implements a government (National) testing plan: purchase electrical appliances from retail channels and send them to an approved third-party Laboratory for testing. If the test results show that the manufacturer has made false statements, a series of sanctions will be imposed on it in accordance with state laws, and the product registration will be cancelled (the right to sell products will be cancelled).

Therefore, the initial inspection and test costs shall be borne by the government, and any subsequent costs for confirming or overturning the initial test results shall be borne by the supplier. In order to encourage manufacturers to continuously improve the energy efficiency of their products, the Australian government has also specially set up the highest energy saving Honor Award (tesaw), which is an honor system to encourage the most efficient star rated products in the market. At present, only electrical and gas products are involved, which can help consumers quickly determine the most efficient products on the market. This honor is renewed every year. In order to meet the tesaw award, products must meet the minimum energy efficiency standard. The manufacturer must also promise that its products meet the conditions for winning the award.
