Energy logistics giant invests $600 million to build Middle East's largest biofuel processing plant in UAE

Mercantile&Maritime is an independent commodity trader headquartered in Bahrain, with operations spanning across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. MENA Terminals, acquired by Mercantile&Maritime in October 2023, is a large-scale energy storage facility with a significant land reserve for expansion.

The biofuel facility will expand over 1 million square feet of production facilities on the basis of MENA Terminals and is expected to be completed by 2026.

After the expansion project is put into operation, the factory will produce up to 150 million liters of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) annually, accounting for nearly 10% of the current global SAF production, becoming an important milestone in the sustainable energy field in the Middle East and in line with the UAE's vision of reducing carbon emissions and building a global low-carbon aviation fuel center.

The strategic location of Fujairah Port and the forward-looking support of the local government make the region an ideal location for biofuel facilities (25.54, 0.89, 3.61%), and the project is also the largest of its kind in the Middle East.

The SAF processing plant will integrate advanced artificial intelligence technology to optimize the operation and maintenance of the refinery. In addition, the facility will comply with global standards set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Carbon Offset and Reduction Scheme (CORSIA), and Renewable Energy Directive III (RED III) to ensure the highest level of environmental compliance.
