The growth password of Vietnam's cross-border e-commerce market

Vietnam, as a hot spot in the consumer goods market in the Asia Pacific region, has shown strong growth momentum in recent years. In 2024, the total retail sales of consumer goods and services in Vietnam reached approximately 266.3 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 9%. The middle class population has exceeded 33 million and is expected to increase to 56 million by 2030. The acceleration of urbanization has created enormous space for emerging markets such as household goods and electronic appliances. Vietnam's per capita GDP is expected to reach $4700 by 2024, with consumption growth rates ranking among the top ten ASEAN countries. The daily consumer goods market development index is expected to increase by 10% -13% annually.

2. Cross border e-commerce becomes a new pillar of economic growth

In 2024, the e-commerce market in Vietnam will exceed 25 billion US dollars, with a year-on-year growth of 20%, accounting for over 60% of the digital economy share. The import demand for electronic products, hardware products, maternal and child products and other categories is strong, with Chinese goods occupying an important position. In 2024, Vietnam's total imports from China reached 144 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 30.1%. The booming development of cross-border e-commerce has driven the transfer of supply chains and brand expansion overseas, making Vietnam a key springboard for global consumer goods companies to expand into the Southeast Asian market.

3. Accelerating the improvement of the industrial chain ecosystem

The maturity of Vietnam's cross-border e-commerce ecosystem is not only reflected in the market size, but also in the upgrading of supporting services. From overseas warehouse layout to the rise of live streaming e-commerce, from intelligent logistics to cross-border payments, the synergistic effects of various links in the industrial chain are significant. Data shows that there are nearly 20000 cross-border sellers and buyers in Vietnam, and leading e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, etc. continue to increase their localization operations, promoting the "online+offline" dual line trade linkage.
