A huge fine! 20 tons of 'fireworks and firecrackers' falsely reported for export have been seized! Freight forwarders suffer!
A huge fine! 20 tons of 'fireworks and firecrackers' falsely reported for export have been seized! Freight forwarders suffer!
In recent months, there have been frequent incidents of transportation safety due to improper declaration of dangerous goods. However, customs still frequently reports cases of concealing and hiding dangerous goods, indicating that some shippers and freight forwarders still take chances and take risks to seek benefits, despite repeated prohibitions.
It is reported that during the inspection of a batch of goods declared as "plastic hair accessories, mirrors" by Beilun Customs under Ningbo Customs, it was found that except for two rows of sealed goods at the entrance, the rest of the goods were undeclared fireworks and firecrackers, suspected of evading customs supervision, totaling about 20.56 tons.
Customs reminder: Fireworks and firecrackers belong to the first category of dangerous goods listed in the "List of Dangerous Goods". The country has strict regulations on the transportation and storage of fireworks and firecrackers. Exporting fireworks and firecrackers through illegal means such as concealment, false reporting, and concealment poses safety hazards
As the world's largest producer of fireworks and firecrackers, China accounts for about 90% of global production. In recent years, China's export volume of fireworks and firecrackers has continued to grow, becoming the world's largest exporter of fireworks and firecrackers.
However, due to the fact that only a few ports in China allow the export of fireworks and firecrackers, which is far from meeting market demand, some shippers, freight forwarders, and buyers choose to take the risk of concealing and falsifying information, smuggling through major ports including Ningbo.
These concealed and false fireworks and firecrackers, once transported on board, have unimaginable consequences. Once an explosion accident occurs, it will cause devastating losses to the ship, port, and all personnel and cargo on board.
Since the beginning of this year, major shipping companies have issued announcements reiterating the need to strengthen the management of cargo concealment/omission/misreporting, and impose heavy penalties on those who conceal dangerous goods.
Evergreen Shipping issued a notice in October, deciding to charge a penalty of up to $50000 for breach of contract by cargo owners who declare false information from October 9, 2024, depending on the circumstances.
In recent years, under strict customs and maritime inspections and heavy penalties imposed by shipping companies, major ports have still frequently seized major cases of concealing dangerous goods, and many relevant responsible persons have been taken into criminal coercive measures. Once the illegal export of fireworks and firecrackers is caught, the companies involved not only face economic losses, but those who are serious will also bear corresponding criminal responsibilities in accordance with the law, and involve freight forwarders and customs declaration companies.
Once again, we remind all shippers to declare truthfully! Maritime, port, and shipping companies at all ports must strictly investigate the concealment of dangerous goods and other related behaviors, and must not conceal or hide them! Dear freight forwarding friends, let me remind our customers again!
